DAU Family
I'm related to the DAU family through my father's mother's mother, who was a DAU, Alice Bertha PRENZLER (nee DAU). I grew up with DAU's around me. To the west Percy DAU had a small farm, and across the road was Barney (Benjamin) and his brother Hine (Henry). In particular I have very fond memories of Barney from when I was very young and it is very unfortunate that he took his own life in 1974.
When Percy died without a family in 1992 quite a few family photos ended up with my parents. My father has identified the people he recalls, but was at best uncertain with many of them. For instance I can not find an Augusta FREIBERG who married into the DAU family. In the case of the photo with the label on the back for Mr W A Dau, is that senior or junior (I think senior)? In Pic 30 why is there only 5 children not 4 boys and 2 girls? Or my notes from talking to my father for Pic 35 is "Wilhelm DAU - Bill or Fred or whatever...".
I'm very fond of many of these images. I love that there is a time series of the 2 sisters Alma Rosa and Alice Bertha. But I find Pic 42 particularly poignant. This is apparently Ted DAU and his sister, a very intelligent looking young boy who died an untimely death at the age of 8, probably within a year or so of the photo being taken. While looking for family graves at the Coleyville Cemetery I came across his grave and realised I had his photo at home. I wonder what happened with his sister?
